CHALET STAFF
We have two types of chalet staff.
There are those who will work in our Chalet Hotel Les Chardons team. You will be our liaison with the guests, so the job is perfect for anyone who enjoys meeting people and is naturally smiley and polite, even when dealing with the most demanding guest.
These non-cooking positions also involve a lot of cleaning, hoovering and bed-making in the morning (though less than in most jobs with other companies, because we like our staff to be able to go skiing in good time), then tidying up after tea, serving dinner and clearing it away. The work is physical and tiring, our standards are famously high, and if you are the sort who can’t get up before dawn day after day, this job is not for you.
The second job is for those who would like to work in one of our smaller chalets, which range from sleeping 4 to 16 guests, where you are also our liaison with the guests and will be cleaning as described above, but will also cook. This involves making a cake every day, cooking breakfast for your guests and being involved in the dinner service. You do not have to be an experienced cook and will not be expected to make sushi or a complicated sauce but a keen interest in good food is important, as is a basic knowledge of cooking.
If you would like a job that doesn’t just involve cleaning and would like to learn more about food and cooking, this is the role for you. We run a training course before our first guests arrive, teaching you everything you need to know, and you are supported all season by our resort managers and head chef.
You don’t have to specify which of the two jobs you wish to apply for when you send in your form. If you are taken on, you can even decide when you get out to Val d’Isère.
In addition to a good wage, you will be able to ski on six days of the week. We provide an allowance for travel to Val d’Isère and travel back after a completed season, accommodation, medical and third party liability insurance, food whilst you are working*, a ski pass for the Val d’Isère/Tignes area and the loan of skis (or snowboards with a supplement) and boots. There are two days off per week.
*We cannot cater for those requiring a gluten-free, nut-free, lactose-free or vegan diet.
If you accept a position with YSE you will need to arrange your own travel insurance to cover you for the season.
You will be required to pay a deposit of £500 before the start of the season. £150 will be due on signing your contract and £350 in November. This will be returned at the end of a successfully completed season on condition you work to the final date specified on your contract (early May) AND return your accommodation to the owners in a state acceptable to them. It will not be returned if you leave early (or don’t start working for YSE), for any reason.
Please note that we can only accept applicants aged 21 and over for this position.
