Reviews by YSE staff who completed a recent winter season in Val d’Isère

2023-24

Working with YSE has been everything I imagined and more. I can’t recommend them enough as employers. Annabel, John, Murray and Christina really look after us in resort. As a chalet host, Annabel and Murray in particular have always been on hand to answer any questions or address any concerns, which really helps you to feel supported and comfortable in the role. They’re great at listening to feedback, both from staff and guests, and will always help with any issues. Over the course of the season, I was primarily a chalet host, but also had the opportunity to work as a floater (covering other people’s days off) and airport rep. Working in each position was really rewarding in its own way. As a chalet host, I ran an eight person chalet on my own. The training you get at the start of the season and Murray’s meals help to make you feel prepared and able to work to your full potential in the role, as well as meaning you get a great work/ski balance from the outset. While working for YSE you’ll also be making friends for life. Starting my season aged 25, I was worried about the potential age gap with the rest of the team. However, there was a really nice mix of ages, spanning from around 21 to 27, which was brilliant. During the season, I lived in an ex-YSE chalet with a big mixed group. Annabel did a really great job of putting us all together based on our rooming preferences and overall personalities, and we had a great time living there. Overall, the season has been unforgettable and I’ve made some amazing memories with some equally amazing people. My experience has been so brilliant that I’m strongly considering coming back again next year to work with YSE.

During my time as a chalet host with YSE Ski, I had an incredible experience filled with memorable moments. Working alongside a fantastic team was undoubtedly a highlight, where I met friends for life. Skiing in Val D’Isere was truly a dream come true, with exceptional conditions that made every moment on the slopes special. Being able to explore such a renowned ski destination was an unparalleled opportunity. Moreover, amidst the picturesque setting, I had the pleasure of meeting the girl of my dreams, adding an extra layer of magic to my time in Val D’Isere. Overall, my experience with YSE Ski was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving me with cherished memories.

Working for YSE has been an awesome experience and one of the most interesting jobs I have had. After Graduating Exeter university after 4 years, I decided to do a ski season in Val D’Isere and have been so happy to work for such a great company. From Start to finish YSE outshone most other Chalet companies in terms of their support and guidance in Staff interviews, training and throughout the Visa process. Annabel, Hannah and Murray are a very effective and caring management team. They make sure any and all concerns are met as well as giving you all the support you will need throughout the season. Overall I have had one of the most amazing seasons and made friends for life, I would highly recommend YSE to anyone considering doing a Chalet hosting season as it will be one of the best experiences you can have. I look forward to coming back soon

After finishing uni in New Zealand, my plan was to travel around Europe for the summer and head to the Alps for a ski season in the winter. I knew I wanted to be based in Val D’Isere and when I read these reviews on the Staff Reviews page, I knew YSE was the company I wanted to work for! It couldn’t have been a better decision. My time in Val D’Isere with YSE has truly been the most fun I’ve had. You work hard, ski hard, and party even harder! The work was great fun – meeting and connecting with interesting groups of guests, cooking delicious food and most importantly, being done early enough in the day with plenty of time to hit the slopes! Having 50 friends to ski with and endless bars, restaurants, and apres spots, every day was just so much fun. The best group of people work for YSE, we are all similar aged (post uni), like-minded, and here for a good time! I have truly made friends for life and have made the best memories ever. John and Annabel also do a brilliant job of keeping both the staff and the guests very happy. I’ve never worked in a job where your happiness is taken into account so much – Annabel was always checking how we were doing and if we were enjoying ourselves in our chalets. I think there may be a few more Kiwis applying to come and do a season next year after hearing my raving reviews all winter – I would highly highly recommend doing a season with YSE!

After finishing university, I wasn’t sure what to do afterwards. A friend who was already working at YSE recommended the role to me and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done! Although I came late to the season in early Jan, everyone was so friendly and like-minded which is helped by the fact that everyone is over 21. The size of the company (around 45 people) also means you get to know people very easily. The hours are great for keen skiers as you have most of the middle of the day off to ski in one of the best resorts in Europe. I originally worked at Chardons (the hotel) and then moved into a chalet and enjoyed both roles for different reasons as well as learning a lot about cooking and cleaning! Compared to different companies in the resort there is lots of flexibility for where you work (e.g. in a large chalet with lots of people or by yourself) which is great for people who thrive in different environments. Val d’Isere is also a great size resort – small enough to feel like you get to know other seasonnaires but big enough that there’s lots of places to go out. As YSE is only in Val d’Isere Annabel and John are always a phone call away and very hands on compared to other companies where your boss might be a resort away! Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to apply to YSE as I have had the best 4 months ever and have gotten much better at cleaning loos!

I have always wanted to do a ski season for as long as I can remember as I’ve always loved skiing, however it was only post-uni that I managed to find the time to take a step back from ‘normal life’ to follow my dreams of doing a season. Leaving it until I was that bit older was most certainly a great decision as I felt like I’ve achieved much more out of it then I would have done had I been younger. Everyone is at a similar stage in life and are all here for the same reasons- to have fun and improve in skiing! Before coming I had many ideas of what to expect however my experience has certainly exceeded all expectations. During my time with YSE I worked within Les Chardons chalet hotel, working as part of a team alongside Christina has made my time here. It’s allowed me to come out of my shell and build my confidence as well as social skills. I feel having done the season I have come back a more confident and grown person, I’ve learnt to adapt to new situations and overcome challenges which will help me in the future. I’ve improved massively in my skiing ability and YSE are great at giving you the opportunity to get as much skiing time as possible. I’ve met so many like-minded people who have all shared the same experience and I can say will be friends for life. If you’re thinking of doing a season, then do it- don’t put it off! Val D’Isere is a great place to spend 6 months

I can honestly say YSE is a company like no other providing the opportunity to ski 6 days a week, look after amazing guests and forge life long friendships with like minded people. I left New Zealand in September 2023 with the idea of some travel before moving to London to continue with the hustle and bustle of corporate life however plans changed when I decided I was not ready for this life again and what better way to fill in this time then 6 months in the French Alps. One of the most enticing aspects of the job was the ample opportunity to hit the slopes. With work hours in the morning and the evening and easy access to world-class ski terrain, I found myself carving through fresh powder and exploring new trails at every opportunity. Whether it was a cruise down groomed runs or an adrenaline-fuelled descent through off-piste terrain, each ski day brought exhilaration and a sense of freedom unlike anything else. I worked in Chalet d’Isere which is a chalet for 16 guests. From providing hearty breakfasts to delicious evening meals (cooked by in-house-Chalet-Chef Alfie), moments spent with guests ensuring an exceptional holiday was deeply rewarding. The connections you make and the heartfelt thank-yous and reviews from guests are constant reminders of how much you are involved in, and impact, their holidays. John, Annabel, Murray and Christina are amazing, available at all hours of the day. In retrospect, my ski season with YSE surpassed all expectations. It was more than just a job; it was a journey filled with friendship, adventure and amazing nights out.

Being 27, and having been working in London in marketing for 5 years, I was nervous about doing a ski season as for me this was more of a career break than a gap year. I felt like the office grind wasn’t for me and I wanted to have a change of scenery to have a think about what to do in life next. I was worried about being on the older side of the intake but wanted to work for YSE as they don’t hire anyone under 21 and this season there have been hosts from 21 all the way through to 27. Doing this season has been the best decision I ever made and it has helped me decide on a change in direction career wise which I otherwise wouldn’t have discovered. Meeting all the different guests from all walks of life has been amazing and I feel I’ve learned more in the way of life skills over the last 5 months than I have in any office job I’ve had over the past 5 years. YSE are so good at the start of the season in training you up (no cooking experience necessary) and are great at placing you in a chalet that suits you, whether in a pair or working solo, or in a bigger or smaller chalet. I was lucky to work in Perdrix for the whole season by myself and all my guests were amazing, highlights being Christmas and New Years weeks.
I was put into a 17 person staff accomodation and only shared an en-suite room with one other girl which compared to lots of other companies and accommodations felt like luxury, I’m so lucky to have made some amazing friends who I know I’ll be seeing for years to come. Annabel, Murray, John and Christina are incredible bosses, always on hand to help at any time of the day no matter the query or issue. My advice to anyone thinking about doing a season would be to just do it, the highs are the best times of your life, the lows can be super low, it’s a very intense non-stop 5 months, but I’ve never once regretted my decision to do a season and I know if I hadn’t done one, I would have always regretted it and YSE has to be the most renowned company in Val d’sere to work for. It truly has been an unforgettable 5 months.

This has been my first season with YSE working as a chalet host and I have absolutely loved every moment. I initially thought I may have missed the boat of becoming a seasonnaire at age 24/25 but with everyone being 21 and over and like-minded individuals I am so glad I made the decision to apply. The application process was straightforward and the interview with Fiona set the tone for the friendly welcome we received from John, Annabel, Murray and Christina in resort. The people you meet are incredible and the skills you learn will be invaluable. There are moments when you are tired from all the skiing, aprés and early mornings but you will make memories for a lifetime and it is all worth it. I feel YSE truly is the best company to work for (aside any bias) as they look after every individual, staff and guest. Any issues were sorted professionally and promptly. After working within the NHS as a mental health nurse, it was a pleasure to meet new guests each week filling the chalets with different personalities which made the season just as enjoyable as the skiing and socialising. The highlights of the season for me were the sunrise tour hike with all the YSE girls, swimming in the fornet pools, MonoSki World championship and every Wednesday at Coco’s! Skiing in Val D’isere and Tignes in such high resorts has been fantastic. Having amazing powder and consistent snow from November all the way until May! It has been the most amazing experience and I would recommend to anyone wanting to apply, you never know where this opportunity could take you!

As a returning member of staff from the 2022-23 season, I can’t recommend working for YSE enough. Before completing my first season with YSE I had just finished my masters at Exeter University. If you’re looking to do something in between Uni and ‘the real world,’ you won’t regret working for YSE. From doing two seasons in Val as a Chalet host, I have made friends for life both within and outside YSE. Seeing how other companies operate, it is very obvious to me that the way YSE functions and the way they look after their staff is second to none. Annabel, John, Murray, Christina and Recco are always nearby or a phone call away if you have any troubles or problems regarding work or personal life. If you love skiing (in one of the best resorts in the world), nights out; fun, you won’t regret working for YSE.

Applying to work a season with YSE was one of the best decisions of my life. I have loved the six months I have spent in Val d’Isere. I worked as a host in Chalet Patou, which gave me the opportunity to ski for about 4 hours, 6 days a week. I had an interest in cooking and baking before the season but Murray’s course and practice meals meant that we had the opportunity to get to know each other, and I felt completely comfortable serving guests when the season started. My main takeaway from the season is the lifelong friendships and memories I have made. Some highlights include a sunrise ski tour, Wednesday days off (cocoricos) and great powder skiing until May. Fiona mentioned in my interview that if I got a job with YSE I would meet so many like-minded people, which is so true. As everyone is over 21, your colleagues are more mature and on the same wavelength. One of my main reservations about doing a season was Brexit, however YSE made the process of getting a visa straightforward. Annabel and John look after all staff so well; John offered carving lessons, outside of work hours, to get to know chalet staff better. And Annabel truly cares how each person is doing, checking in often. I always felt that I could go to either of them if I had a problem and they would sort it straight away. I could not recommend doing a season with YSE more.

After graduating at University of Liverpool this previous summer I decided to work a ski season for my winter. I found out about YSE through completing Orchards Cooking school, and after asking people and reading about it I only heard positive things. Now having experienced a season with YSE I can only say this is true. I have made the most amazing memories, and met life long friends. In terms of work, YSE was a great fit for me. Although I completed a cooking course, I don’t have loads of experience in a kitchen. This was fine though as YSE have a central kitchen where the meals are prepped, and then sent out to the chalets for the hosts to present and serve. Not only does this take the pressure off being a host, it also gets you loads more time on the slopes! Working in a chalet can be tiring, but Annabel, John, Christina and Murray give you all the support you need. In times of panic, there was always someone at the end of the phone ready to help. They also support the nightlife of a chalet host, as long as you don’t sleep past your alarm. Val d’Isere is a great place to work too. Everything is central, the skiing is amazing and the apres is even better!

I couldn’t speak more highly of YSE! I came straight out of university and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and stumbled upon YSE. The driving role for YSE is unmatched, I mean cruising around in a yellow Land Rover through Val d’Isère delivering to the chalets you get allocated is pretty awesome! I have made the most amazing friends for life and can’t wait to see them all when we’re back.  The resort, night life and skiing is the best in the world and you will not find any better. YSE look after you when working for them as they house you in fun and well located accommodation in terms of the town. This is brilliant as everyone is always close or a bus ride away. John and Annabel get the balance right it terms of working and having fun. The phrase “work hard, play hard”, rings very true out here and the more you put into the season the more you get out. I would recommend this job to anyone who is looking for the best 6 months of your life, even if you haven’t skied, you will surround yourself with all different standards and everyone gels together as one big team to improve together. I will always look back on this season as the best 6 months of my life and keep this big group close. I am excited to see them all back home and have lots of fun in the future with them. YSE create the most unforgettable group of friends and I will forever treasure them.

This has been my second ski season with YSE, the first being in 2019-20 where COVID meant that we all had to go home in March before the end of the season. I am so glad to have come back for a second season and would highly recommend it to anyone who is enthusiastic about skiing and looking to make a group of lifelong friends and a lot of unforgettable memories along the way! I have been working this year with Head Chef Murray in Chalet Hotel Les Chardons, having worked as a chef for three years after my first season, and have had a great time in the main kitchen prepping food in the morning, skiing until last lifts and then serving food to the Chardons guests in the evening, working alongside a group of very similar minded hard working people who love skiing and being out in the mountain air as much as I do. If you’re thinking about doing a ski season, stop thinking and apply because you will have the best 6 months with the best people

My winter at YSE has been amazing. After graduating University of Exeter last summer I was reluctant to go straight into a corporate job and wanted to spend my year doing something really enjoyable and worthwhile. I found exactly that in my role at YSE, not only was I able to take my skiing to a really high standard (with the help of various seasonnaire programmes made available to us through YSE) but I made friends for life. The fast and busy lifestyle meant I was always on the go and always had something to do whether that be work, ski or apres and there really never was a dull moment. One of the best things about YSE is Annabel, John, Murray and Christina. They look after us all so well and I believe my experience would have been much more chaotic and less enjoyable had my managers been 20 something year olds who only cared about skiing and going out. They are empathetic and have the best experience they possibly can having managed their staff for so many years. It makes for a really enjoyable work environment and they completely understand that we are there to both ski work and have fun. The work/life balance was better than I could ever have expected and I would never consider working for another ski season company (being someone who has done a ski season previously). Finally, the friends you make are the real highlight. Everyone is like-minded being of similar age and all post university. It’s really easy to make friends and they really are friends for life. I cannot recommend YSE enough for anyone looking to do a winter season.

After graduating my University in Canada I made my way to Val D’Isere to work for YSE. Other than working with a bunch of Brits the season was all time great! I skied 6 days a week and there was never a dull moment. If you are a keen skier Val is the spot for you. There is great snow and plenty of terrain to cover, I was still finding new spots at the end of the season. On the night life and Apres side of the season it put Canada to shame. As wild as it got the vibes were high. Work was typically 7am-11am and 6:30-9pm, 4 days of the week; and Sundays typically took up the full day. I was alright at cooking before the season but in hindsight the only cooking experience you need was turning on and off an oven. I learned lots about talking to strangers and cleaning, my future wife will love that! I’ve lived in a couple of staff accommodations and this one was nothing short of the best one. I wouldn’t call it luxury but it was definitely cozy. I became super close with everyone I worked and lived with. Management really does care about you and will be on your side through the thick of it. At YSE I met some friends I will always stay in touch with for a long time, made some memories for life, and made all my friends at home jealous with all the sweet skiing I did. Cheers YSE.

Having always wanted to do a ski season, I decided to apply to YSE and fly off to Val d’Isere for a few months. Despite Brexit getting in the way of most things, YSE were very helpful in sorting my Visa and extending it for future seasons. The biggest perk of YSE is the ski time you get in between shifts and being able to ski till last lift most days. Working in Chalet Hotel Chardon’s kitchen has been fantastic and Murray has been a great mentor for my future as a chef. The management staff are always on hand if you need help with anything and have made it a truly unforgettable experience.

I decided to take a gap year post uni and join YSE for a ski season. I had heard about YSE from other people who had done seasons elsewhere, and I couldn’t recommend it enough. As a chalet host, our hours were from around 7-11am, and then 7-10pm. We had the whole day to ski, or do whatever we wanted, as well as every night free to go out and do our own thing after shift. The apres & nightlife in Val D’Isere is amazing and everyone was constantly having so much fun. We were all post uni (mostly ages 21-23), and from similar backgrounds so as a group we all gelled right from the start. We were provided with accom, ski hire, a lift pass, breakfast and dinner- which other companies didn’t offer. With this, Annabel and John are such good managers who everyone really respects, and equally could rely on to help us with any issues we were having, in or out of work. My time in Val D’Isere has definitely been the best 6 months of my life and we’ve all come away with friends for life. Thank you YSE for a season I’ll never stop raving about!
Louisa Stoney, Chalet Staff, Winter 2023-24

Thank you for such an amazing season. I applied to work for YSE after finishing university, having heard great things from friends who had worked here over previous years. My time spent in Val d’Isere with YSE has been everything I’d hoped for, with the two highlights being the amount of skiing time available and the social life that we have enjoyed as a group. We were able to ski 6 days a week without fail, and we were lucky to get frequent dumps of snow throughout the season. YSE did a good job of recruiting a bunch of like-minded people, which has allowed everyone to make a lot of friends. Val d’Isere is a perfect resort for a season.
George Plant, Chalet Staff, Winter 2023-24

After graduating from Durham University,  I knew I wanted to take a gap year but was unsure whether to do a ski season or to travel for the majority of the year. I got in contact with a friend of mine who was working for YSE at the time asking her about her ski season who told me unequivocally that I had to come to Val d’Isère and work for YSE. At the time, it was difficult to believe that all the amazing things she was telling me were true, but coming to the end of my 6 months with YSE I can wholeheartedly say that I’ve had the best 6 months of my life. The best thing about working for YSE are the people; not only are John, Annabel, Murray, and Christina the most supportive, kind, and fun managers I have worked with, but they genuinely care about your welfare and experience. They were unbelievably helpful throughout the whole visa process, ensuring that we had all the right documentation which I know is not the same amongst other chalet companies / jobs in ski resorts. Most importantly, YSE hire like-minded, outgoing, friendly and fun people who are now friends of mine for life (including 3 who I am going travelling with this summer). Annabel does a fantastic job in pairing people to the right chalet and is incredibly understanding and flexible if anybody is unhappy with their situation – there is practically nothing I couldn’t speak to her about. Now the season is coming to a close, I wish I could do it all again: the company, the resort and the skiing are all fantastic and I couldn’t recommend YSE enough to anybody who is thinking of applying – you will certainly not regret it.

I can definitely say that working for YSE and doing a ski season has been the best 5 months and an experience I will never ever forget. I was recommended both val disere as a resort and YSE as a company by friends who did seasons last year. Val d’isere is great- there is loads going on, lots of apres options and the best skiing I’ve ever experienced. As for YSE, I was constantly told that they make a big effort to recruit like-minded and similar people. I can wholeheartedly say this is true. Everyone got on with everyone, and I have made friends for life. I think it’s great that everyone is over 21 and has already graduated- this was definitely another selling point for me. I worked as a chalet host with another girl in a chalet for 12 guests. Our job involved breakfast service, cleaning the chalet once guests have left, setting up for afternoon tea, and then dinner service. We often worked between 7 and 11am and 6 until 9pm. This meant we had plenty of free time, as well as also having 2 days off a week. We were able to ski 6 out of 7 days a week which was also a perk and more than I thought we could! Another great thing about YSE is that we didn’t need to have completed a cooking course before coming out, everything we needed to know we were taught during training weeks at the beginning of the season. As for accomodation, I lived with 3 other girls and we all shared a bathroom and a small kitchenette- the accommodations definitely aren’t as bad as I was imagining before coming out! Overall, I couldn’t recommend doing a season with YSE enough. I would highly encourage anyone to consider and apply if you’re looking to have a fun filled 5 months!

My decision to join YSE for a ski season in Val d’Isere after graduating from Bristol University was absolutely rewarding. The vibrant atmosphere and the prospect of off-piste skiing and après-ski adventures in the resort were major draws for me. As a Chalet Host, I found the perfect balance between work and play. Flexible hours meant ample time to explore the slopes and immerse myself in the après-ski scene, creating unforgettable memories with mates for life. The support from Annabel and John, along with the camaraderie among colleagues, made every day enjoyable and fulfilling. YSE provided not just a job, but a gateway to new friendships and experiences that will last a lifetime. For anyone considering a ski season, I highly recommend YSE for its exceptional tight-knit atmosphere, and incredible opportunities both on and off the slopes.

Having known multiple people who had worked for YSE in previous years and hearing their enthusiasm towards the company, I was extremely eager to experience a season with YSE myself. I am very proud to say I can now express the same sentiment and I cannot recommend it enough! Most notably, the management at YSE is outstanding. Annabel, John, Murray and Christina (and Recco) played a significant role in my experience. Having worked as a chalet host, you come across a variety of guests and I can confidently say that they will always have your back, especially Annabel (resort manager) who takes a very personable approach to her job. Additionally, the fact that all of the staff are at very similar stages in life, most having just graduated from university, played a vital part. I have made friends for life, three of whom I am going travelling with for 6 weeks straight after the season. I’m not sure how I’m not sick of them already having lived on top of each other for the last six months (It’s all part of the fun I promise!)

After graduating from the University of Exeter in 2023, I applied to YSE as a chalet host and I can highly recommend it! I worked in Chalet des Pentes along with my chalet partner for the whole season. A perk of YSE is that all the staff are like-minded and everyone is over 21 years old and mature. I can honestly say I have made many good friends at YSE. Our head chef Murray takes care of a large amount of the food preparation which means the food is of a high standard and we get more time skiing – easily 4/5 hours a day. From having very little skiing experience at the beginning I am very happy with my progress and improvement. We work roughly from 7am to 10.30am then back to serve dinner at 6.30pm leaving at around 9.30pm. Lots of time for Apres!!! Annabel, John, Murray and Christina have taken care of us very well and treated us very fairly – you could call them at any time of day for help. They helped a lot with the visa process before and during the season. Val D’isere is a great resort to spend the season in, lots of snow November to May and very big. Many, many apres options, our favourites being Rosies and Coco’s of course! The only regret I have is not signing up for another season!!

After finishing university, I had heard from family friends about doing a ski season in France. After some research I stumbled upon YSE. After speaking to Fiona and reading the staff reviews I knew this was a company I wanted to work for. I would say it was the best six months of my life. I was glad everyone was in the same boat as me as recent university graduates all keen to make the most of their lives in the Alps. I worked in Chalet hotel Les Chardons, where I worked with a great team. Although it was hard work at times it was definitely worth it as we got to ski six days out of the week.

Before I arrived in Val d’Isere, I spent weeks thinking about my upcoming season. I had heard so much about YSE and ski seasons in general – and got myself so excited about it – that I even began to worry that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. Luckily, I couldn’t have been more wrong, and working for YSE has been the best 6 months of my life. All of the cliches that you hear are true – I’ve made friends for life, skiied almost every day, partied like a uni fresher and made some memories that will stay with me forever. Whilst we work hard, Annabel and John are excellent bosses who really know what they’re doing, and the atmosphere among the staff is always great, with regular socials and parties. Val D’Isere is by far the best resort to do a season in – the powder is guaranteed, the slopes are never that busy and the apres is always great. And if you’re going to be in Val d’Isere, then YSE has to be at the top of your list.

Before finishing my degree at Edinburgh uni I was quite unsure of what I wanted to do with my year out. One of my friends recommended I apply to YSE to do a ski season and it was the best decision! It is definitely something I would recommend to anyone thinking about doing it. I worked as a chalet host/cook which, unlike many other companies, doesn’t actually require any cooking courses. The training at the start of the season prepares you so well as we all practised the meals for each other and most of the prep is done by our head chef in town. The best thing about my season is definitely the friends I have made as YSE do a really good job of employing people with similar interests. I can’t recommend a season with YSE enough!

Working for YSE was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. I applied in the early summer of 2023, whilst working on my MSc dissertation at the University of Bath. Having studied for four years, I decided to take some time working somewhere where I hoped I would meet many interesting people, host a variety of diverse guests, experience life in the mountains, and of course get to snowboard as  much as possible. Working in Val d’Isere for YSE enabled all of these aspirations to be fulfilled. I managed to build an incredibly strong network of friends, and the experiences I gained – from climbing the mountain in time to snowboard down at sunrise, to partying in the sunshine at Cocoricos – will stay with me for life. What stands out about YSE for me is the feeling of being part of a family; everyone looks out for each other, the management is fair, supportive, and honest, and the recruited staff are all friendly, respectful, and fun. What stands out about Val d’isere as a resort is its high altitude which enables reliable snowfall throughout the season, the existence of many other ski companies which means that the resort is full of other seasonnaires, has an incredible amount of accessible off-piste, and a town which is warm-hearted, friendly, and never lacking in social opportunities. Together, these characteristics make for an incredible ski season experience, and I would thoroughly recommend YSE to anyone considering working in a European ski resort.

This season has been amazing, Val d’Isere is one of the best places in the world for both skiing and apres and YSE is without a doubt one of the best companies to work for across the resort. The hours are perfect for both skiing and going out, although early mornings are tough. You have regular contact with the owner John and managers Annabel and Recco who have been running YSE for decades and really do care that you have a good experience, which definitely isn’t the case for other companies. Head chef Murray is the perfect person to be teaching you and his food is amazing, which you get to take some credit for which is always nice. The system of centrally prepared food that you cook in the chalets each evening works perfectly to save you so much time prepping in the morning but still serving freshly cooked food. Most of all the way training and accommodation is managed guarantees you will get so close to everyone so quickly and make such good friends so easily. Accommodations are all within walking distance of nights out and the buses are very efficient to get you to the slopes.  YSE is genuinely an amazing company to work for, just don’t make a mistake in training or it will take 3 months to get past it ;). It’s a hectic 6 months that will feel like 2 weeks but not something you’ll ever regret.

Working for YSE has been an unforgettable experience. After a year of work post uni, I decided it was now or never to do a ski season! I’ve loved working with so many like minded people and although we work hard, we play hard too. Annabel, John, Murray and Christina are such great bosses, they do really look after us as we all agree they’re firm but very fair. I look forward to meeting new guests each week and despite the long change-over days, we’re always ready for a night out and a debrief on our new guests. YSE really does feel like a community, skiing together, working through hangovers together and crying over burnt cakes has bonded us and I don’t think any other experience will quite compare. I’m so grateful to have been a part of YSE and couldn’t recommend it more.

Unsure about what to do after leaving university, I wanted a taste of something different before committing to a full-time office job. I’m really glad I did! Working with YSE is such a unique experience. Getting to know so many interesting similar-minded people, working together, skiing together, laughing and partying together for 5 incredible months.
Although working hard is a requirement, you will quickly become accustomed to early mornings and late nights. You will learn so many new skills and come out of the season with a new found sense of confidence. Don’t worry if you don’t have too much previous experience in similar roles, the training programme is so comprehensive that everyone finds their feet very quickly. The staff are also very experienced and always on hand to help. I could not recommend Val d’Isere highly enough as a resort to live in. Incredible snow from the beginning of December all the way through to May, such a wide array of both on-piste and off-piste skiing options, a town full of other working seasonnaires creating a buzzing atmosphere throughout the season. My accommodation was based right in the centre of town, living in the same building as 10 other members of YSE staff. If you don’t know where and who to do a ski season with definitely choose YSE. With so much experience in the industry, they’ve seen it all before and take such good care of their staff members. I had an unforgettable time in Val d’Isere and cannot recommend YSE highly enough!

2022-23

After graduating from Exeter University earlier this year I was rather lost with what to do with my gap year. Having considered doing a ski season I decided to apply to YSE. My interview with Fiona was so lovely and more of an informal chat, which made me feel so comfortable and want to work for the company even more. It is the best thing I ever did! I have met my absolute best friends for life as well as having the most incredible 5 months making brilliant memories and having so many incredible experiences. Everyone at YSE is extremely like-minded and similar in maturity, being all over 21 and I didn’t have to worry about just being surrounded by 18 year olds! I worked as Chalet Host which was amazing for what I wanted to gain from the season – working from around 7:30-11am meaning there was plenty of time for skiing and more importantly Apres! And then working in the evening from around 6:30-9pm. This is due to the fact that a lot of YSE food is prepared centrally by our head chef – therefore you don’t have to be a top chef, whilst also saving a lot of time for staff. Not only is our salary and accommodation better than most companies in Val d’Isère  but Annabel and John are absolutely incredible at looking after us all. With John doing ski lessons in his own time for his staff, and Annabel really caring about everyone’s happiness and you really can talk to her about anything. You don’t often think this is important but when moving abroad and making an entirely different group of friends it really is comforting. I couldn’t recommend the company enough if you are considering doing a ski season, it genuinely is the best thing I ever did if you are wanting to travel, meet new people, and more importantly ski.

Working at YSE has been incredible. Having been at Durham University studying geography for 3 years, I decided to apply to YSE as a chalet host and cannot recommend it enough. As a host, we have lots of time to ski, socialise and meet a huge variety of interesting guests. Our staff accommodations are bang in the centre of town which makes skiing and going out really easy, while meaning we can get in 4/5 hours of skiing in a day. Before I arrived I enjoyed cooking but wasn’t amazing, however YSE has a food and hosting to a really high standard. Most of all, what YSE gives you is an amazing group of friends that we will all have for life. The staff are all from similar backgrounds and of similar ages (post university around 21-23) meaning we all jell quickly and have a serious laugh. On top of this, John and Annabel take great care of us as staff, and we are treated fairly with empathy. As staff, we are provided with accommodation, ski hire, a lift pass and food as part of our “package” which other companies in Val sometimes don’t give. Finally, Val d’Isère has been the most incredible place to work. Amazing snow, beautiful ski areas and lots of places to go out. My time at YSE has been incredible and I cannot recommend the person reading this to apply more. Everyone you work with is up for a laugh, wants to work hard, play hard, and will be friends for life! If you do make the right decision and apply to YSE, I can assure you that you will not regret it and will have the time of your life. Thanks YSE and look forward to coming back soon.

I came out for my ski season with YSE just after I had graduated my Masters in International Marketing at Newcastle, and it was the best thing I have ever done! Having never heard of YSE beforehand, a few of my friends at university recommended applying to YSE as they had heard of it’s great reputation. From the initial interview process all the way to landing back home in Manchester, I felt so looked after by John, Annabel, Fiona, Murray and Christina. They really are the best bosses/management I’ve ever had. I worked in chalet Tapia, both cooking and hosting. Running an 8 person chalet alone was something I never thought I could do, and maintaining high YSE standards was certainly hard work at times. However, with the intense training and the close help of having Annabel and Murray at the end of the phone at all times, you get into the swing of things so quickly and easily (meaning lots of time for skiing!) Also, it’s the most rewarding job, meeting such interesting and lovely guests every week. Val d’Isère itself is the perfect place to be a seasonnaire, everything is central, the skiing is amazing, and the après is even better! It has such a great community feel too, with all the seasonnaires eager to get to know each other and before you know it you know everyone who works in the bars, ski shops etc! But the absolute icing on the cake is the friends I made on my season. YSE hire similar people, who are all there to have fun and experience something new! I truly have made friends for life, and the best friends I’ve ever had. Being thrown in the deep end, doing challenging work and living in very close proximity to like minded people, makes bonds like no other. I’ll be eternally grateful for YSE for introducing me to who I value as some of my best friends for life. My season was without a doubt the best thing I’ve ever done – so much so I’m considering doing another one this winter.

I can wholeheartedly say that choosing to do a ski season with YSE was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Having just finished my Master’s in Statistics at UCL, I wanted a break before starting work. I’d always wanted to do a ski season, and when I was able to defer my graduate job I decided to  take the opportunity to do one; I’m so glad that I did! I applied to YSE because it was recommended to me by friends who had done seasons for them and sang their praises – I can now completely see why! Working for YSE was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Being a chalet host is a really rewarding job. Whilst running an 8 person chalet by myself was a big responsibility and hard work, I’ve definitely learned some valuable life skills and feel lucky to have had the chance to look after some fantastic, interesting guests. It’s abundantly clear that John and Annabel make taking care of their staff their top priority, and they were really supportive and involved with us from the get go. John, Annabel and Murray couldn’t do enough for us and played a massive part in making the season so fantastic. I cannot thank them enough for their hard work in doing so. I think the best part of the season was the amazing people I met. Fiona did an excellent job of recruiting a team of likeminded people; everybody got on so well and I’m walking away from this season having made friends for life. I’ve truly had the time of my life and I know I’ll always treasure the time I spent in Val d’Isère. I cannot recommend YSE highly enough – if you’re thinking about applying, go for it!

After 4 years at Exeter Uni I decided to do a ski season and I am so glad that I did! It is an experience I would recommend to anyone and the highlights most definitely make any hard work worth it. YSE were a great company to work for as we had a lot of help from the beginning with visas, training as well as food preparation throughout the season. This meant we could be as efficient as possible and had even more time to ski, something which YSE really encourage. Annabel, John and Murray really listen to any concerns or suggestions too. Having accommodation and ski hire provided was a huge benefit and living with other YSE staff means that you do make some amazing friends. The people I have met at YSE are definitely the reason my season has been as great as it has been!! Val d’Isère is such a great resort for seasonaires with so much going on, the best après and amazing skiing. I’m so happy that I applied for YSE and have no doubt that next year’s staff will love doing a season as much as I have.

This has been my first season with YSE having taken a small break from working in the NHS and it has been one of my best decisions! I heard about YSE through friends who had previously worked here and they couldn’t speak more highly of it, and I totally understand why. I worked as a chalet cook and host in Chalet Perdrix, but don’t worry if you haven’t got masses of cooking experience, Murray (the head chef) supported us in training at the beginning of the season, including cooking for each other in the first week which was so much fun and a perfect way to get to know everyone quickly. It’s hard not to make such good friends here when you get to ski together for 6 days of the week, and live together for 5 months! The staff accommodation is amazing, I lived in a chalet with 17 other girls, and shared an en-suite room with one other, which felt like luxury compared to what I’ve heard from others. There’s also so many fun and quirky events to look forward to throughout the season, my highlights being New Year’s Eve and the Monoski World Championships! You also get so many perks, not only all the great additions YSE provide on top of your pay package, you also get seasonnaire deals in the resort! One of my favourites being the seasonnaire ski programme where I was able to learn how to ski off piste which I had never done before!  Life as a seasonnaire is great out here, Val d’Isère is without doubt the best resort in the Alps. YSE have looked after me incredibly whilst I’ve been here, John and Annabel are fantastic. I can’t thank YSE enough for this past season and would highly encourage anyone to apply

Before my season, I had just completed my masters from Exeter University and was looking for something to do before entering the real world! I have had such a great time over the last 6 months working for YSE. YSE has allowed me to go on some crazy nights out, ski in a resort which is arguably the best in the alps, while making friends for life. Post Brexit, I was unsure how the visa process worked and didn’t know if it was even possible to work in France for a long period of time anymore. However, YSE talked me through the complicated process step-by-step and made it as easy as possible to apply. Annabel was great at assigning the right chalet to the right people and could always be contacted at any time if you had any issues that needed an immediate fix. Unlike many other companies in Val d’Isère YSE offer a non-cooking chalet host role which I applied for. This role suited me very well as I’m not a confident cook. However, if I was to come back and work for YSE, I would definitely apply as a cooking chalet host. I’ve got to know many people from other companies out here, and it is really clear to me that YSE really look after their staff, so much so, that I’m considering doing another season for YSE.

I really couldn’t recommend doing a season with YSE enough. I worked as a chalet host in the Chalet Les Comtes de Savoie (both cooking and cleaning) for YSE last season after a friend of mine had worked for them the season before and had such a great experience. The staff are all above the age of 21 and similar in personality, mostly post uni, which was a massive plus as my main worry was that I was going to be surrounded by 18 year olds, with different interests. It also meant it was such a sociable company to work for as well. Another plus is that YSE is the only company that has the system of central cooking by the head chef. This meant that you didn’t have to be a top chef to be able to take on a cooking position and the prep time is so much less than other companies. Our hours were typically 7am – 10:30am and then 6pm – 9:30pm which meant plenty of time for skiing during the day and time to go out in the evening. Working for YSE was exactly what I expected/wished for and more when thinking of a ski season. The experiences you share with people are so incredible and so much fun, and we’ve all made friends for life, as cringey as it sounds. The staff accommodation is all so central, which means short commutes in the morning. The chalets are all lovely as well, it was such a pleasure working in them. If you’re nervous about taking on the role, it is a lot of pressure but the training is so intense and well done that you’re so well prepared by the time you have guests. We’re looked after so well at YSE. If you ever had an issue, Annabel (chalet staff manager) and Murray (head chef) were always so happy to help and actually sorted it. They really don’t stop until you’re happy with your chalet and position. All in all, working for YSE has been the most incredible experience and I’m so sad the end of the season has appeared.

I highly recommend doing a season with YSE. I have made life-long friends who are all very similar to myself. I was worried when applying I would be one of the oldest (23). However, I was happy to find that everyone was a similar age and nearly all graduates. The company looks after their staff very well and always makes sure everyone is happy in their chalet and working alongside their peers. Another great aspect is that you have plenty of time to ski and are on the same schedule as your friends, so never miss out! During the season I mainly floated (filling in for staff on their days off) which I loved. It allowed me to become closer to the other chalet staff and it relieved the pressure that running a chalet solo held.  Working for YSE was the best experience and best choice I have ever made. I am extremely sad the season is over but looking forward to creating more memories with the friends I have made during the winter. Thank you YSE.

I absolutely loved working YSE! I had just finished a masters in forensic science and so was really glad that the majority of staff were all around 22 or 23 which isn’t as true for other companies. One of the main benefits of working for YSE is the amount of free time we get in comparison to other companies, due to the fact, some food preparation is done for us. This makes the work a lot more stress free! We were able to ski everyday, except changeover day, if we wanted to, and for about 4 hours minimum. Which when you’re working and also going out is more than enough ski time a day! In terms of management and the company as a whole one of the nicest things. Annabel creates a really positive and enjoyable work environment and is amazing at organising everyone into a position where they are happy. So, you will never be in a role you don’t enjoy or working with anyone you don’t get on with. I was coupled with another girl in Chalet Lucaval and every shift was a laugh and so we had the best time and she is now one of my best friends. Which is down to Annabel pairing people so well. It goes without saying the best part of the season is the friends you make, which every company says, but I have really made friends for life and this has been the best experience I have ever done without a doubt. Our accommodation is also a lot nicer than some of the other companies in Val. I lived in a flat of five girls right in the centre of Val, and that was one of the highlights of the season. I really couldn’t recommend YSE enough, and if you are thinking of applying, absolutely do, because you won’t regret it!

I left Exeter uni last summer having studied Business Econ and Spanish. I have been a guest with my family in YSE chalets for 10 years and this year I decided to join the YSE team ! I have had the best 5 months, made friends for life and done some of the best skiing I’ve ever done. YSE is a fab company to work for – plenty of skiing time, 50 like minded co workers, some big company nights out, and some genuinely nice guests – all giving life long memories, would recommend to all.

I have had the most amazing time working for YSE this season, definitely six months I will never forget. I’ve come home having made so many great friends and so many one in a life time memories! I worked in a six man chalet on my own as a cooking host which, with the majority of the prep being done in the head kitchen by Murray, takes away a lot of pressure and stress! I met some amazing guests who are always trying to make your life easier and get you out skiing as soon as possible! Val d’Isère is such a great resort to live and work in with incredible skiing and the best apres at Cocos! Annabel, John and Murray have all been so supportive throughout the season ensuring we have all had the best six months possible! Having had lots of friends who have done ski seasons, I couldn’t recommend YSE more.

After graduating from Newcastle university and completing a masters at UCL I really wanted to take a year out. I always liked the idea of a ski season, but I felt unsure due to having only skied for a week before and not being a great cook. I worked in YSE’s chalet hotel, Les Chardons, in a non-cooking role. I thoroughly enjoyed working in the hotel due to working in a bigger team. There were also a number of us of lower skiing ability who were able to organise lessons together and progress massively.  My time with YSE has been the best 5 months of my life. What makes YSE particularly unique is the relationship with John, Annabel, Christina and Murray who always looked after us. John and Annabel always appreciated that we wanted to spend as much time skiing as possible, enabling us to get out on the slopes everyday, and John was always keen to give us a carving lesson! Another bonus of YSE was the high quality of staff accommodation that we lived in, as well as the high quality food we got to eat all season. I couldn’t recommend YSE more, and Val D’Isere is definitely a great resort to spend 5 months in!
Darcey Morse, Chalet Staff, Winter 2022-23

Having left 5 years of a covid infested uni, I wanted to spend some time travelling and meeting new people, which has definitely been the best part of my time here. There’s a great mix of working hard delivering for chalets, and then immediately getting on the slopes to get to La Rosée Blanche. Typically we worked from 7am to midday, and then 6pm to 8pm in the evening, driving around Val d’Isère in the yellow landies, being offered bacon sarnies and coffees from the chalet girls. The way that the interview process worked meant that everyone gets on so well right from the off and we’ve all become really close friends. All in all, even though I didn’t achieve my season goal of landing a backflip (7 attempts) I’ve had such an amazing 6 months with a great bunch of mates and wouldn’t have swapped it for anything.

I heard of YSE through a friend who lives in the resort and she highly recommended YSE as they are known for having a good balance between work, skiing, partying and making friends and I can attest to this now that I have completed my season with them! The friends I have made have made my season as cliche as it sounds, they are some of the loveliest, funniest and most supportive people I’ve met. Along with that John and Annabel  have ensured that we are looked after at every point of the season, this has made such a difference as it has made the season which can feel quite long more homely! I lived in an accommodation with 16 other girls and, as daunting as it sounds it was one of the best times ever and we all had so much fun as there was always someone around. I would even go as far as to say one of the best accommodations! I came to the season not being able to ski and found other people within the company who were the same level. YSE managed to organise a few ski lessons which got us to a good level and continuously supported and ensured we were staying safe and enjoying ourself! The ski time within the job is amazing, you have from around 11:30-5.30 or 6pm, 6 days a week, which is highly specific to YSE. The resort also offers amazing skiing as you are also able to access the Tignes ski area. The job itself can seem quite daunting at the very beginning but once you get into it and get a routine going, it is extremely enjoyable. The guests I have met this season have, in the vast majority, been lovely and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. The cooking and cleaning is all very manageable as you have very in depth training before you start working. In a whole the time I’ve spent with YSE has been some of the most enjoyable months to date, I am so extremely jealous of all up-coming chalet girls/boys and drivers.
Issie Murran, Chalet Staff, Winter 2022-23

After graduating from Bristol university I decided to do a ski season. My role included a combination of cooking, cleaning and hosting. I was a little apprehensive about the cooking part, however, much of the food is prepared by the head chef. As such, you do not need to be an experienced cook to apply. You will meet so many like minded people; living, working and going out together has created strong friendships. I had never been to Val d’Isère before, it definitely exceeded my expectations! Finally, YSE look after you really well. The management team are very approachable, get to know you personally and have your best interests throughout. YSE arrange your accommodation, ski pass, ski hire and food. The season I had was truly more than I expected, I couldn’t recommend YSE enough.

Working for YSE this winter will be a decision you will never regret. I chose to work for YSE just after graduating from Newcastle University. After completing the season now I cannot dream of doing it with any other company or resort. Val d’Isère is not only a world renowned ski resort with runs suitable for all skiers but it’s is also a beautiful part of the world with an incredible social scene. YSE do an amazing job of employing people with similar interests and ages ranging from 21-23 which is not the case with other companies in Val d’Isère.  When I first applied to work for a ski season, multiple friends and family told me I would make life long friends but I really didn’t believe them. However, the friends I have made are truly amazing and have created many hilarious memories I will never forget. In terms of work you will be worked hard but the experience is totally worth it. YSE ensure you are able to ski 6 days a week for at least 4 hours. Not only do the management give us enough free time to ski but also ensure we feel at home and comfortable at all times. Annabel is a fantastic boss and, if you are applying to be a driver, you will never have a dull moment living and working under John’s management. So If your are thinking of doing a ski season in France, YSE will not disappoint you. They are an amazing company and I could not recommend working a ski season for them enough.

I heard of YSE from a friend whilst at uni and decided to do a season after graduating from the Uni of Reading. Working with 50 others, most just graduated like me and all 21+ was such a pro for YSE. I have had an amazing season working in Maison de Rocher in a non-cooking role which I really enjoyed – meeting really, really nice guests which is unique to YSE. I lived in a chalet with 16 other girls, which has been such a wonderful opportunity to make friends for life and incredible memories. It seems daunting living with so many people but being able to always come home to someone made it feel so homely. We were able to ski 6 days a week is unique to YSE and often from 11-5.30 ish. 2 days off a week is also quite unique in Val. I have had the best 6 months and would throughly recommend working with YSE, you get so looked after by Annabel, John, Murray and Christina who ensure you get the perfect combination of work, skiing and partying throughout the season.
Gemma Rees, Chalet Staff, Winter 2022-23

Thank you for such an incredible season. I really do appreciate the abundance of opportunity I was given, as well as the trust you put in me. I will be forever grateful that you took me on so late in the season yet gave me the support to settle in so promptly, resulting in a thoroughly enjoyable 3 months. I wish you both all the best for the summer months, and hope to see you both next season.

I will forever treasure the incredible memories, lifelong friends and invaluable work experience which I gained from working with YSE this winter. Having recently graduated from Bristol University, I found doing a ski season to be the perfect transition between university and my career. I spent the season working as a chalet host in Chalet d’Isère (16 person). The management of staff was exceptional, with Annabel and John providing staff members with a high level of responsibility, yet remaining a phone call away if something went wrong. I feel very fortunate to have worked for YSE and would do it a hundred times over if I could. Living in Val d’Isère is a privilege in itself; with endless skiing, an amazing nightlife and wonderful people around. Above all, I feel truly grateful to have returned home with a group of friends who I know will be friends for life. I cannot believe it’s come to an end and I will continue to look back on my season with the biggest smile on my face. I would recommend YSE to anyone considering a ski season, whether you’ve skied your whole life or never put on a ski – there is something there for everyone, and YSE is no exception to the rule.

I studied Geography at Exeter university. I applied to be a chalet host for YSE so I could meet a variety of high profile individuals and also to improve how I communicate with different people. The communication skills I learnt from interacting with guests will be very beneficial in your future career. To be a chalet host all that is required prior to the role is to be energetic and charismatic. At first I struggled with the early mornings, however I soon got used to it and found that I could do so much more in my day. Val d’Isere being one of the highest resorts in the Alps ensures the quality of skiing is very good all year round, the chalet host role ensures that you can fit in on average 5 hours of skiing, 6 days a week. The staff accommodations are all located in Val d’Isère and close to bus stops for the free buses which run throughout the day. We are all very well looked after by Annabel; if we are ever unhappy or request anything like specific days off she will often go out of her way to accommodate to our needs. Giving the drivers a bacon sandwich when you can will ensure you get priority on deliveries, which I would recommend. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed my season working for YSE and as a result of a number of reasons; from interacting with guests to making life long friends. I wouldn’t want to work for any other chalet company.

I’ve wanted to do a ski season for so long but as a beginner skier I never thought it was really possible. I applied for YSE and was so happy to get the job and even happier when I found out that I wasn’t the only beginner skier! I’ve had the most incredible 5 months with amazing people who have genuinely become such close friends. Learning to ski, après, nights out and living with 18 other girls have all been chaotic but so so fun. The work is tiring but you’re really supported which is so reassuring. I definitely would recommend working for YSE!!
Rachel Forster, Chalet Staff, Winter 2022-23

During a YSE ski season you’ll get to ski or snowboard almost every day. You’ll also be living with other people who are doing the same thing, so you’ll make lots of new friends and have lots of fun. It’s a great way to really immerse yourself in the ski culture and lifestyle. Val d’Isère is a world-renowned ski resort, so doing a ski season there would be an incredible experience. The skiing is amazing, with lots of different runs and plenty of off-piste opportunities. Plus, the town itself is really charming and has lots of great restaurants and bars. You’d also be living and working with people all so similar and like-minded which is a great experience. One week will involve pot wash which is nice to work with the chefs which always means good banter. The driving involves deliveries to all the chalets, which is always social seeing all the chalet staff. Finally the food provided is excellent as it’s the food that the guests receive as is at a very high standard. Overall it’s 6 months I’ll never forget.

I’ve just graduated from Exeter Uni after studying Psychology. I applied for YSE after hearing how well they treat their staff and they have not disappointed! I have had a great time this season, made loads of friends, skied nearly everyday and had many fun days at après-ski in Val d’Isère. Despite the hard work, early mornings and deep cleaning, it is well worth it. YSE’s new cooking system gives you even more time on the slopes! Accommodation, ski hire and food is all included in the overall package, alongside good pay and often fab tips! I would highly recommend applying to do your season at YSE.

Working for YSE is the perfect balance of everything. You have lots of opportunity to ski on reliable snow in a huge area. The guests are really friendly and enjoyable to work for which makes the job a lot easier. YSE is supportive in the training process and throughout the season which makes you feel super prepared. I hadn’t done a cooking course before but the system works amazing at supporting you and gives you a lot of time to ski. Val d’isere has great social atmosphere which makes socialising with everyone in the company and the resort fun. It is a full time job and often very long days for 5 months straight so prepare for the early mornings but the two days off a week is great for aprés. Made friends for life which isn’t hard when you live in the same room as five people for five months.

I came to Val d’Isère to do a ski season with YSE with very little expectation  of how the next five months would be. Little did I know I would have the best five months of my life. I can confidently say that anyone who works with YSE will leave Val d’Isère with friends they will have for life and memories and experiences that are unforgettable. I worked as a chalet girl in a chalet of 12 with someone else alongside me. The job consisted of getting to know new guests each week, cooking for them every morning and evening and keeping the chalet clean and in a good condition throughout the whole season. I personally really loved the the job of a chalet host as I was able to meet interesting guests each week, and many of the guests you will remember and have stories to tell for a very long time. This job has taught me so much and given me great life experiences that I know will help me through my future career paths. You learn to become personable, confident, and very adaptable, these are attributes that I have most certainly gained throughout this season and that is something you can’t be taught but achieved through a job as unique as this one. Finally, not only did I enjoy my job, made some amazing friends, I was able to ski 6 times a week for 5 months with a ski pass and ski hire that YSE gave me. This was an absolute luxury and we all felt incredibly lucky to be able to ski in such a beautiful resort this much.

2021-22

I had an amazing 5 months working in Val d’Isere for YSE. YSE is a great company to work for; they provided all of the information and support that we could need from the very beginning whilst we were trying to get our visas sorted, as well as advice on what to pack and expect once we arrived in France. The workload was very fairly balanced allowing me to ski 6 days per week if I wanted to, and John and Annabel would do anything in their power throughout the season to ensure we were happy. Val d’Isere is an amazing place to have lived so I am keen to return again, and would highly recommend doing a season with YSE.

Working for YSE has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life so far. An experienced team that keeps staff and clients equally happy while keeping standards up to the highest level. With only the friendliest of employees working for YSE an inclusive camaraderie is built throughout the season, and when combined with an excellent balance of work, ski, and apres, this ensures you will have the best of winter seasons working for YSE.

When I first arrived in Val d’Isere I didn’t really know what to expect having never done a ski season before. However, as soon as my bags were out the transfer I was into Les Chardons meeting 48 like-minded people who I can now say are some of my closest friends. YSE is also the type of company that expects very high standards, but you are rewarded for keeping those high standards. Having also chatted to many of the other ski companies staff, YSE really looks after its staff. I cannot recommend any other chalet company more than YSE.

Working with YSE made for a completely unforgettable season. I originally signed up to the 2020/21 season before COVID struck and so I rolled the job over to the following year. At this point, I was working full-time in London and decided to quit my job for the season in Val d’Isere. It was a decision I will never look back on! It really was the dream job; the work-life balance was completely ideal. Annabel and John were so supportive throughout the season. They were heavily involved without it feeling like your boss was watching over you the whole time and the company felt like a big family. The absolute highlight of the season for me was the people. I don’t think I have ever, or will ever, meet a group of such like-minded and fun individuals. I couldn’t recommend YSE more

My season with YSE is a time I will always treasure. After three years of uni, staring at a computer screen and stressing about work, my season provided an amazing opportunity to unwind. I loved getting outside and skiing most days, forming life long friends, dancing on tables at apres, and just getting stuck into the work. I enjoyed looking after guests each week and wanted to make sure they loved their time at YSE in Val d’Isère as much as I was. I cannot recommend it enough, it is tiring work but it is such a happy experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something different.

Working for YSE has been an amazing and unforgettable experience. It exceeded all expectations and I could not recommend it highly enough. It’s said YSE’s (unwritten?) motto is “happy staff makes for happy guests”, and it shows. John and Annabel’s winning formula generates overwhelmingly positive reviews and many repeat bookings from returning guests whilst making sure that their staff get more ski time than almost every other working seasonnaire in the resort. You’re independent and given a lot of responsibility from the outset, but well supported and help is always there if you need it. It’s hard work, with early mornings and late finishes, but incredibly rewarding and great fun! I’d urge anyone on the fence as to whether a season is for them to read all these staff reviews and apply to YSE. I cannot thank John, Fiona, Annabel, Murray and Christina enough for the incredible time I had in Val d’Isère.

My season with YSE was everything I could’ve asked for. I was meant to work for YSE the previous season which was cancelled due to Covid, but I decided to postpone “adult life” for another year and wait for the 2021/22 season to roll around: and I am so glad I did. It was genuinely the best six months of my life and I couldn’t recommend YSE highly enough. There was more than enough time to ski, and the work was pretty fun too. Annabel is great at putting together chalet teams so, rest assured, you’ll end up in the right place for you. The main reason the season was so amazing though was the people. I have genuinely made friends for life and everyone got along really well with each other, which really is a testament to YSE’s hiring process. I also can’t thank John, Annabel, Murray and Christina enough for making it a great season – they were all really supportive but also a lot of fun. I could go on for hours but long story short: if you’re looking to do the season of a lifetime, apply for YSE, you won’t regret it!

Somewhat unconventionally I decided to do a season after spending 4 years post uni working at an investment management firm. It was a bit of a leap of faith but it’s something I’ve always dreamt of doing and I can safely say it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Hosting new guests every week and playing such a large part in the success of their holiday was so rewarding and I learnt invaluable life skills without even realising, all thanks to the support in the background from John, Annabel and Murray who understand how to run chalet holidays so well. Above all, most weeks I was up the mountain 6 days out of 7 skiing (whilst my friends back in London were sat at a desk – no brainer really!!) and getting to know one of the best resorts in Europe like the back of my hand. My time with YSE has given me far more than I can ever articulate and it’s a period of my life I’ll cherish forever – I had an absolute blast. I think everyone should quit their jobs and do a season with YSE, I’m seriously considering coming back for round two.

Without a doubt my season at YSE was the best experience of my life and one I will always treasure. I loved working as a chalet assistant, and although the work is hard, it is also extremely rewarding! The YSE guests were great fun and I loved meeting new groups week in and week out. Annabel, John, Murray and Christina all looked after us so well and although they were our managers, they also became our friends too! I’ve come away from my season with lifelong friends and the most amazing memories. If I could do it all over again I wouldn’t change a thing and would not have wanted to work anywhere else other than YSE!

I was initially interested in YSE because, when researching multiple companies, the YSE chalet assistant role seemed to be my ideal ski season job: hosting guests, with no cooking! It turned out not only to be the perfect role, but the perfect company. YSE expectations are high and everyone works hard, but you’ll start to take real pride in ensuring your guests have the best possible holiday. Working in my little chalet team was also such great motivation and made work easy and fun. Another selling point of YSE is all the other staff. By the end of our 5 months together, chefs, chalet assistants and drivers alike were one huge friendship group, with the best team mentality. John, Fiona and Annabel also really know what they’re doing and you feel truly looked after by people who are experts in Val and chalet holidays. It is clear how important our skiing time is to them and being able to get on the slopes 6 days a week is the best possible way to spend 5 months, especially when followed by all the fun Val d’Isère has to offer. When my parents visited me, my dad commented that it’s the happiest he’s ever seen me. He was right. My season was the most incredible experience and I know that it was due to YSE.
