We are looking for enthusiastic Chalet Cooks to work in our smaller chalets (4-8 guests) in Val d’Isère, France
You don’t need to be a qualified chef to apply but it helps if you have done a cookery course. However, even more important is an appreciation of good food and an interest and ability to cook confidently for groups of people. The budget is generous and our guests are pretty foodie.
Chalet Cooks cook breakfast, afternoon tea and three-course evening meals with canapés. It’s hard work, with early starts, but also a great opportunity to work in a supportive environment, where your menus are met with appreciation by your chalet guests. There are two days off a week which will be given as one whole day off and two half days.
If you work alone in our smallest chalets you will also clean the chalet, make beds, hoover and be a welcoming presence for your guests, so applicants need to be naturally smiley and polite, and be happy to discuss your menus or the best places to ski week-in-week-out.
We run a short training course for our chefs and cooks at the beginning of the season and some of you will be able to partake of the YSE Cookery School online course prior to starting work. Cooking at 1850 metres above sea level changes a lot, mainly because nothing boils at the same temperatures, so it’s a chance to practise cooking in a new environment. Also cooking alongside other cooks and chefs gives you an opportunity to see their techniques and taste their food.
In addition to a generous wage and the chance to ski or snowboard six days a week, we provide accommodation, food whilst working, a travel allowance to get to and from Val d’Isère at the start and end of the season, a ski pass, and the loan of skis or snowboard and boots.
If successful in your application, you will be required to pay a deposit of £200 on signing your contract. This will be refunded on 31 January 2022 if you are still in our employment and have not handed in notice.
Please read the Recruitment Overview before applying to work for YSE.
